Singapore–India Tax, FEMA & Financial Advisory for NRIs & OCIs.

From CPF withdrawal sequencing and IRAS clearance to India-Singapore DTAA — a single playbook for PRs, citizens and OCIs in Singapore.

Singapore citizens, PRs and OCIs are NRIs for Indian tax until India presence crosses 182 days. India-Singapore DTAA gives residence-based credit; CPF withdrawals during RNOR usually sit outside Indian tax. IRAS IR21 tax clearance is required before final employment payout. The 2017 protocol ended source-based capital-gains relief on Indian shares.

Common questions

Answered, candidly.

Will my CPF be taxed in India when I withdraw?
Depends on residency at withdrawal. While NRI or RNOR, CPF withdrawals typically sit outside Indian tax. Once a full resident, withdrawals can be taxed with DTAA relief — we model the withdrawal year against your RNOR window.
Do I need IRAS tax clearance before I move back to India?
Yes — employment pass and PR holders need IR21 clearance from the employer before final salary release. Plan last working day, clearance and India landing together to avoid a dual-residency overlap.
Are my Singapore SRS contributions still tax-efficient after I return?
SRS contributions retain Singapore deferral, but withdrawals after you become Indian-resident are typically taxable in India under DTAA Article 18/19. We sequence drawdowns across the RNOR window.
